Field of Celebrant

The Field, called Parth Celebrant, lies in the angle between the Anduin on the east, the Silverlode coming down from Moria in the north and the Limlight on the south. Lothlórien is close by across the Silverlode, and the Wold of Rohan begins below the Limlight.

In TA 2510 a large force of Balchoth crossed the Anduin and drove the northern army of Gondor north across the Limlight into this pocket of ground with the rivers at their back. Cirion had sent riders north to the Éothéod for help with little expectation that any would come.

Eorl the Young came. His horsemen struck the Balchoth from behind, broke them, and pursued the survivors out of Calenardhon. Gondor's army was saved and the northern invasion collapsed.

Cirion's answer was to grant the whole depopulated province of Calenardhon to Eorl and his people. The Oath of Eorl was sworn at the tomb of Elendil on the Halifirien, and the kingdom of Rohan began. Little else happens there, but almost everything about Rohan follows from it.

   Eorl the Young and the Éothéod broke the Balchoth host that had trapped Gondor's army, and Gondor granted Calenardhon in return.
