Edhellond on the map of Middle-earth

On the map the haven sits at the head of the bay just inside the cape of Dol Amroth, at the mouth of the Morthond. Its name simply means Elf-haven.

Silvan and Sindarin Elves who had drifted south down the coast settled there and built ships for the passage over Belegaer. For a long time it was the only Elven port in the south, far from the Grey Havens in Lindon.

Its last chapter belongs to Amroth of Lothlórien. He came to Edhellond meaning to sail west with Nimrodel, waited for her past the season, and in TA 1981 his ship was blown out to sea by a storm. He leapt overboard trying to swim back and was drowned. After that the haven emptied, and by TA 3019 only ruins stood there, though the memory shaped Dol Amroth's name and its princes' pride.

    Waiting for Nimrodel at Edhellond, Amroth was carried off by a storm and drowned trying to swim back to the shore.
