Eryn Vorn stands on a blunt cape pushing west into the Sea, below the Brandywine's mouth and well south of the Shire. Its name simply means Black Wood. On the map it is a dark mass on an otherwise empty coastline, with Minhiriath stretching inland to the east and Harlindon far away across the water to the north.
Minhiriath was thickly wooded in the Second Age, and this headland is what remains after centuries of felling and clearance by the Men of the coasts and the shipwrights who worked the Gwathló. By the Third Age the rest of the region was open, empty country, and the wood on the cape was left because nobody had any use for it.
No road on any map reaches it and no event in the histories takes place there. It is a piece of geography the story never visits, which is itself a fair description of most of Minhiriath after the Great Plague.

Long felling for timber and settlement stripped the woods between the Brandywine and the Greyflood, leaving the coastal wood on the cape.
