The green province of five rivers between the White Mountains and the mouths of Anduin

Lebennin on the map of Middle-earth

On the map Lebennin is the broad fertile wedge between the southern feet of the White Mountains and the lower Anduin, with Lossarnach upstream to the northeast and Lamedon over the hills to the west. Its rivers run south into the delta country, and the old road from Minas Tirith to the coast runs through it by way of Linhir.

The province was heavily settled and reasonably rich, and its lower valleys held a strong strain of older, pre-Númenórean blood. Gondor's kings drew soldiers and sailors from it, and the Crossings of Erui on its northern border saw the decisive battle of the Kin-strife in TA 1447.

During the War of the Ring the Corsairs landed along its coast and burned as they went. Aragorn's march from Erech drove them back, and men of Lebennin filled the captured ships and came to the Pelennor as reinforcements.

    Battle of the Crossings of Erui

    Eldacar defeated and killed the usurper Castamir at the river crossing on the border of Lebennin, ending the Kin-strife.

    Corsair raids and relief

    Corsairs burned the coastal districts until Aragorn drove them to Pelargir. Men of Lebennin then crewed the fleet to Minas Tirith.
